Loving your Hostas
You cannot start early enough to care for your hostas.
During the winter remove all the dead leaves, you may wish to freshen the ground with some horticultural grit. When the shoots appear apply a liberal dressing of blue pellets, this deals with the emerging slugs and should not be needed again.
Now, this is the treatment that deals with slugs and improves the appearance of your plants, the garlic spray.
Take two large garlic bulbs place in a plastic bag and crush with a rolling pin. Add the finely crushed garlic to two pints of boiling water for 2-3 minutes, let it cool, sieve through an old pair of stockings into a pouring container, and finally, decant into a plastic bottle. You now have a concentrated garlic liquid dressing.
Put two tablespoons of this liquid put into a two-gallon watering can with a fine spray rose, and treat your hostas late in the afternoon. Spray your plants every fourteen days during the active growth from the appearance of the first shoots to late August/September.
