Gardening tips at Pool Methodist Church We all had a fine evening listening to Joe Maiden talking about the garden. He brought along some truly great plants that he distributed, and his sheep bits to help grow good plants in our own gardens and deter slugs as well. A merry evening was had by all. CW

Celebrate the Queens Diamond Jubilee by contributing to the creation of a riverside woodland in Pool. The Trustees of the RGMC are planning to create a small woodland area between the old mill remains and the river by planting around three hundred trees in this area. You can support  the venture by donating £3 towards the planting of a tree. All donations will be recorded in a register that will be held by the RGMC. Contact Bob Calvert robertcalvert@talktalk.net  or Richard Parker to register your interest in sponsoring a tree. The RGMC would like to congratulate the Football Club for the new addition to the playing fields area of a smart and functional changing room to replace the old score box, which had reached the end of it’s useful life. The club did really well to raise over £80K, and should be congratulated for that. RC

Pool AFC plans for the future With new changing rooms close to completion, the Club needs to consider pitches. We     have a growing junior section that we must accommodate; the First team is and always will be our flagship, but the juniors are our future. We also have our ladies’ team, and potentially a girls team in the near future. All of this we need to keep. We are currently looking at utilising more of the field by the river, indeed, we feel that we could put another 11-a-side pitch down there as well as more small sided areas; the goal posts would have to be portable. We may still need more pitches, so any suggestions will be welcome. PW

Arthington Railway Station, Go or No-Go Reports from Harrogate Chamber of Trade and Commerce and Arthington Parish Council appear to be conflicting and for many, confusing.  The Parish Council’s message is that proposals have hit the buffers and that the reopening of Arthington Station looks as remote as ever. However, Harrogate Chamber of Trade and Commerce December news release states ‘effectively the route becomes the region's next highest rail priority after the Trans-Pennine electrification just announced’. Meanwhile, for those who are considering a future that includes a railway station at Arthington, an unambiguous statement and programme may provide some assurance.
